What we do with your data

Last updated: 14 September 2026

This page explains what Latent does with personal data that belongs to us — the email address you give us, and the addresses we use to contact film labs.

If you are a film lab using Latent, the scans and customer details that pass through the product are a different matter: there you are the controller and we are the processor, and our Data Processing Agreement governs it, not this page.

1. Who we are

Latent is operated by KlakinnSaas, Lækjargata 5, Reykjavík, Iceland.

Email: privacy@latentfilmlab.com

We have not appointed a Data Protection Officer. We are not required to, and we would rather say so than imply a role that does not exist.

2. If you joined the waiting list

The form on our home page asks for your email address and how scans leave your lab today. Both are optional in the sense that nothing obliges you to fill the form in — but the form will not submit without an email address, because the email address is the entire point of it.

Why: to tell you when Latent opens for signup, and to understand how labs deliver scans today so we build the right thing.

Legal basis: your consent (Article 6(1)(a) GDPR). You gave it by submitting the form, and you can withdraw it at any time — see section 6.

3. If we emailed you first

We also hold email addresses for film labs we have not spoken to yet. We did not get those from you. We collected them from publicly accessible sources: the labs' own websites and public film lab directories. We hold the lab's name, its website, its public email address, its country, and notes we wrote ourselves about how that lab describes its own delivery process.

Why: to introduce Latent to labs that might want it.

Legal basis: our legitimate interest in offering a business product to businesses (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR). Our interest is finding customers; we have weighed it against your interest in not being contacted, and we limit ourselves accordingly: at most two emails without a reply, ever, and an unsubscribe line in every one. We only write to labs in countries where unsolicited business email is lawful.

If you would rather we did not hold your address at all, say so and it is deleted — see section 6. You do not have to give a reason.

4. Who else sees it

WhoWhat they getWhereWhy
Netlify, Inc. the whole form submission United States hosts this site and stores form submissions
Automattic Inc. (Akismet) the whole form submission servers all over the world, in Akismet's own description spam filtering — Netlify runs every submission through it

Both are outside the EEA. Netlify transfers under the European Commission's standard contractual clauses (Implementing Decision 2021/914) and is certified under the EU–U.S. Data Privacy Framework. Automattic transfers under standard contractual clauses. You can ask us for a copy of either at the address in section 1.

Akismet keeps spam-check data for two weeks to ninety days, by its own account.

Nothing else. We do not sell data, we do not share it with advertisers, and there is no analytics script, no tracking pixel and no cookie on this site.

5. How long we keep it

Waiting list: until you become a customer, or 24 months after you signed up, whichever comes first. Then the entry is exported out of Netlify and deleted.

Labs we contacted: until you ask us to remove you, or 24 months after the last email, whichever comes first. An unsubscribe is kept as a single line — your address and the fact that you unsubscribed — so that we cannot write to you again by accident. That line is the one thing we keep indefinitely, and it exists to protect you.

6. What you can ask us to do

You can ask us to give you a copy of what we hold, correct it, delete it, restrict what we do with it, object to it, or hand it to you in a portable format. If we are relying on your consent, you can withdraw it at any time — that does not make what we did before unlawful, it just stops it going forward.

Write to privacy@latentfilmlab.com. We answer within 30 days. We will not ask you to justify the request.

7. If we get it wrong

You can complain to the Icelandic Data Protection Authority:

Persónuvernd
Laugavegur 166, 4th floor, 105 Reykjavík, Iceland
postur@personuvernd.is · +354 510 9600

You do not have to talk to us first.

8. What we do not do

If any of that changes, this page changes first.

9. Changes

If we change this page we will change the date at the top. If a change affects what we do with data we already hold, we will email you before it takes effect.
